Inspiration comes from different places; books, internet, experience, conversations. I like to search every kind of source to find inspiration. For photography work I use Pinterest a lot. But also magazines, books and Social media. There are some photographers I really like and I wanted to share that with you and hopefully it will inspire you too.
I am a big fan of fantasy, things that don’t exist only in your imagination. The following photographers are bringing fantasy back in their photographs.
Emily Soto; Emily is an American fashion photographer. But not like just any other. Her images are beautiful. They got something dreamy and she is using different types of cameras to capture a feeling. If you look at her portfolio you’ll see that the photos she is taking are a bit fantasy like; dark colours, all kinds of attributes, backgrounds with textures. Some of the photos look like they come straight out of movie, in my opinion. This is definitely a style I would love to explore.
Richard Pryde; is an American conceptual fashion photographer and I absolutely love his work. His style is amazing and most of his work has to do with Fantasy. The photo above is one of my favourite photos; Maleficent. Stunning work. Richard works a lot outside, working with natural light which I prefer too though he does use a studio as well.
Richard Terborg; a Conceptual Fashion -Beauty -Portrait & Fine-Art Photographer – as he calls himself coming from the Netherlands. His style is completely different from the other two, that’s probably why I like him. His pictures are more clean and simple but that makes him really good in what is he does. On his Facebook page you’ll see a lot of “selfies” of him and that makes him very open. Also, I like the way he is posed on those selfies, he looks like he really loves his job and that is inspiring.
Brooke Shaden; Brooke is an American Fine-art photographer. Her work is also very different from the rest but still in the Fantasy atmosphere. Her photographs are somewhat spooky but the way she makes those photographs is very interesting. Maybe you can see in her portfolio she works a lot with Photoshop but the outcome is stunning. To see how she does that I really recommend to take a look at her Youtube channel. Her photographs are giving me the feeling I can fly or float/soar. She makes your imagination going.
Kimberley Sol; She is a Dutch fine-art photographer who photographs children, maternity, portraiture and families in an artistic, fine-art way. She is the first Dutch photographer that I love that is using this style in regular photoshoots. Why doing “normal” photoshoots while you can make something very cool and different? That’s definitely something I would like to try.
Amanda Diaz; Amanda Diaz is absolutely my all-time favourite photographer. She is a Canadian photographer that doesn’t give her style a name. Her goal is to create romantic and dreamy photographs. This style is something I really want to try and maybe continue with it if I get the hang of it. “Many photographers pride themselves on their technical ability but I rely on my creativity and the valuable people that contribute to my ideas”. Doing what you love and knowing you’re good at it without getting arrogant. Amanda is someone who really inspires me. Besides photography she is also creating Photoshop action and is a designer.
Other inspiring photographers
There are more photographers with a different style that inspires me sometimes. Take Serge Ramelli. Serge is a French photographer living in the beautiful city of Paris- as he always says. Serge is a landscape/city photographer. His photos are amazing and really interesting to look at. He also makes online tutorials for Lightroom and Photoshop. These tutorials help you to create even more beautiful pictures and that works inspiring as you want to take more pictures and try new techniques.
Another photographer that is completely different is Lauren Lemon (her real name is Lauren Randolph). She is an American Fine-art, editorial and commercial photographer. She is always trying new, funny things. Using bright colours, weird backgrounds or interesting composition, her photographs are amazing.
She has a few tutorials on Lynda.com where she is explaining how she is coming up with her ideas. If you’re a member of that website, check it out.
As you can read I do love quite a few photographers. They keep me inspired to do what I love and to improve my photography. They are doing this for years that means they have a lot of experience and practise. As long as you keep practising and improving yourself you will be the photographer you always wanted to be.
