R&D – Concept 2

My second concept is inspired on colour coding. It sounded interesting and helpful.

This will also be an app for tablet. The app has different sections, which the child can fill in:

  • Schedule; together with the teachers or the parents, the children can fill in there school timetable (if used). In there, there will be an option to colour code each different subject. The app will save those chosen colours.
  • Planner/to do list; the colours they gave to the subjects are automatically saved. So now, if the child wants to write down there homework/tasks in on the list/planner, they simply have to choose for which subject the task needs to be done. The planner shows the colours of the subjects but also the names so that the child can read if necessary. That way, it will be easier to remember.
  • Time span; same as the other app you can give a certain amount of time to the task. The tablet will shut all apps down and shows the colour of the subject you are working on with the time span you chose. After the time is up, the app will return to its normal state. If the task is not finished, the child will get the question why. That way the child will have to think about what went wrong and what the problems were. It will also give tips what to do if they are struggling. For example, ask your parents or the teacher.
  • Tips for different learning styles; during my research I found out that everyone has a different style of learning. This app provides tips and advice about what types of learning there are and how to use it. When they want to use it, they simply click on one and it will start a practice round. If they like it, they can add it to one their school subjects and they can use it whenever needed.
  • Rewards; whenever a task finished or a new type of learning has been done, they can collect stars. With those stars, they can do different games. Not only brain games but also games to relax. Every collected star is a different level of difficulty.
They can also to choose to collect points. With these points they can choose something of their liking to do or to eat, in collaboration with their parents. This keeps them motivated but also keeps the parents close. These points could also be used at school. When they collected a certain amount of points they could choose to play with, for example, music instruments, or they can do crafts. This will also help relax the child so it will not suffer fatigue or boredom.

Keywords: Planning/time management, organisation, working memory, sustained attention, goal directed persistence, task initiation, evaluation.
