The second photography workshop was about using flash. We were introduced to different kind of equipment. We learned how to use with a light meter which is making working with flashlight a lot easier. Using a light meter also helps you creating the best exposed photos. The only thing you need to “worry” about is the composition of the lights. Where do you place them in composition with your model/attributes?
We were introduced to different accessories for the flashes:
- Snoot; A cylinder fitted to a lightsource which bundles the light in a little circle. Also known as Hair light.
- Softbox; a softbox is a big “box” which you put over the light in order to diffuse the light. It will create soft light and therefore less hard shadows.
- Boom; A very long metal arm that allows you to create light from above.
- Slave (unit); When working with multiple flashes you create a slave unit. One of those lights is a master and the other lights respond to that master. When firing a flash with the master light, the “slaves” will respond and also flash. Most of the light do this by using an infrared.
After a good introduction we could try to work with these lights ourselves. I photographed my little “bible”. This notebook contains everything I need to know about blogging, Social media and so on. Very important tips and tricks to help me to get better in the things I love to do. I used the black background with one flashlight on the left side. I didn’t really go as I expected but with the limited time we had I’m satisfied with the results.
I can’t to wait to start use these lights with real models.
